MEET OUR PASTOR

Yoshika Berroud

Yoshika Berroud is a Houston native who has always been a voice of enthusiasm and excitement. As a teenager Yoshika was a faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastors Rudy & Juanita Rasmus and accepted her call to ministry. During that time, she consistently taught bible study and preached her first sermon at the age of 17.

From Houston, Texas this proud Mirbeau B. Lamar High School graduate traveled to Happy Valley and became a Nittany Lion at Penn State University. Yoshika continued ministering throughout college at the Albright-Bethune United Methodist Church under the guidance of Pastors Kenneth & Yolanda Clarke. After a quick four years, with a degree in Journalism and a minor in business, Yoshika headed back to Houston ready for the next stage of life; She worked for one of the largest non-profits in the city, Bread of Life. This organization partnered with St. John’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, they provide support services to homeless men, women, and children. As their Marketing Director, she was able to connect her heart to business and it was a match made in heaven, literally! With Bread of Life & St. John’s working together, Yoshika was able to minister and serve her community. Soon thereafter Yoshika took her ministry back on the road to serve others.

After her time on the road working with children, Yoshika enrolled in the master’s program at Lamar University and in 2009 she received her degree in Education Administration and became certified principal. In February 2019 she completed her education and received her Doctor of Education in Administrative Leadership for Teaching & Learning.

While Dr. Yoshika gets a paycheck for a position in education, it’s not a job but rather a passion and work of heart as she services students and families. Her call to ministry has never stopped. She has traveled all around the world sharing the good news of God as well as her testimony. In 2017, Yoshika started using social media to get the Word out using her #ImJustSaying posts. That same Word was also shared via Word Night, a Saturday afternoon hour of worship and Word. This continued until the COVID shutdown of 2020. Even during a pandemic, the Word still had to go forth, so Yoshika created a virtual way to share and encourage others during her weekly Motivation Monday. When COVID got a bit under control, but still with restrictions, in September of 2020 Yoshika began preaching monthly at New Faith Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Dr. Clara Brent.

In October of 2021 Yoshika received a call to become Pastor and re-open the House of Prayer and Life. In Yoshika’s early ministry days, she knew Pastor C.B. Arnold and the work she did in Houston specifically in Acres Home. What an honor to stand in the building Pastor Dockery built over 50 years ago and minister from the pulpit she used to lead thousands of people to Christ. When Yoshika was asked what her plan was for the House of Prayer and Life, her answer is simple… “service!”
